On Sunday, November 10th my sister Laura Lambert Smith and her husband Travis Smith took their daughter Juno to the doctor for a follow up on
an illness that wasn't getting better. They were sent over to PVH's ER
for a full panel blood test where they found her white blood cell counts
alarmingly low. The doctors sent Juno to Denver children's hospital
via ambulance where after a series of tests it's been confirmed she has
leukemia.Thankfully, she has a type that had a very high cure rate.
For the next two months Juno and her family will be staying in Denver
so she can receive her first couple rounds of chemotherapy, which will
be the strongest, so they will need to monitor how her body will take
it.That being said, we are raising money to help cover the costs of
pet care while they are away, hotels, meals at the hospital, medical
expenses not covered by insurance (her initial treatment at Denver
Children's hospital was denied by their insurance company, she is now
receiving treatment at St.Lukes ). This will be a 3 year treatment
course with many cancer treatments not covered by the insurance.
Needless to say, they will be needing some help now and in the future.
